Support that strengthens services, culture and care
Why we created Lumina
Who We Are
Lumina was founded to support care providers during the moments that matter most, when services are under pressure, facing regulatory challenge or preparing for change and growth. We’ve seen first-hand how quickly services can become overwhelmed, and how difficult it can be to access the right expertise at the right time.
What we believe
At Lumina, we believe that every service can improve with the right support, honest guidance and clear actions.
Our mission is to help care providers deliver safe, consistent and high-quality care, by strengthening leadership, improving compliance, and building confident teams.
Continuous improvement is not a one-off exercise. It’s a culture, a mindset and a commitment to doing what’s right for the people we support. That belief runs through everything we do.
The Lumina approach
We work with services in a way that is:
Open – transparent communication without jargon or judgement
Supportive – we stand alongside providers, not above them
Honest – clear feedback backed by experience and evidence
Fast action – practical solutions that move services forward
Our approach is grounded in experience. We don’t offer theory, we offer hands-on support, clear action plans and measurable results. When services are struggling, waiting isn’t an option. We act quickly, with focus and care.
Meet the founder
Lumina is led by Nick, a highly experienced Director with over 15 years’ senior leadership experience across adult social care services in Wales. His background spans Registered Individual (RI) and Director-level roles within large care organisations, including leading turnaround projects for underperforming services, successfully achieving CIW registrations, and driving sustainable growth and quality improvement at scale.
Nick’s depth of experience directly shapes how Lumina operates, grounded, practical and outcome-focused. Every service is built on real-world understanding of what works in social care, ensuring clear direction, high standards and meaningful, measurable impact.
Crisis Management & Turnaround
When a service is in crisis, time matters. Lumina provides immediate, hands-on support to stabilise operations, address risk and restore confidence. We work closely with providers facing regulatory pressure, safeguarding concerns, embargo notices, service failure or sudden leadership gaps — delivering clear priorities, structured action plans and fast improvements that protect people and the business.
Interim Leadership (RM / RI)
When leadership changes unexpectedly, services can quickly lose stability, compliance and direction. Lumina provides experienced interim Registered Manager and RI support to maintain regulatory oversight, strengthen governance and lead teams through transition. We focus on immediate risk management, clear decision-making and rebuilding confidence across the service — ensuring quality, safety and compliance standards are upheld while you recruit permanent leadership.
Mock Audit & Inspection Preparation
A mock inspection gives a clear picture of how your service will perform under regulatory scrutiny. Lumina delivers independent, CIW/CQC-aligned audits that mirror real inspections, reviewing evidence, observing practice, sampling documentation and speaking with your team. You receive a clear, prioritised report outlining strengths, risks and practical actions, giving managers confidence, teams clarity and services the assurance they are inspection-ready.
Policy Review & Creation
Clear, compliant policies are the foundation of safe care and strong governance. Lumina provides full policy support — from updating individual documents to creating complete policy packs tailored to your service. Every policy is written in line with current regulatory standards, UK legislation and best practice in adult social care. We review your existing documents, identify gaps or outdated content,
Bid & Tender Writing
Securing new contracts requires clear, compelling bids that demonstrate quality, capability and value. Lumina has extensive experience writing successful tenders for adult social care services, with a 93% success rate across local authority and NHS submissions. We support providers through the full process, from narrative writing and evidence collation to shaping service models and preparing for commissioner interviews. Our approach ensures your submission reflects regulatory expectations, delivers strong outcomes, and shows commissioners exactly why your service is the right partner.
UKVI & Immigration Compliance
Managing Skilled Worker sponsorship can be complex, especially as UKVI expectations continue to tighten across the care sector. Lumina provides clear, practical guidance to help providers understand and meet their obligations — from interpreting sponsor rules and preparing evidence to managing Right to Work, reporting duties and licence governance. We support organisations already holding a sponsorship licence, as well as providers considering becoming a sponsor for the first time. Our partner organisation has been a Tier 1 visa sponsor since 2023 and has successfully sponsored over 200 international care workers, giving you access to deep, real-world expertise and proven processes.
Senior Leadership Mentoring
Strong leadership shapes service culture, compliance and outcomes. Lumina provides tailored mentoring for Registered Managers, RIs and senior teams, helping leaders build confidence, improve decision-making and think with a regulatory mindset. We offer honest feedback and practical coaching that develops people, not just processes, with a focus on communication, accountability and performance. Whether supporting new leaders stepping into post or experienced managers facing complex challenges, our mentoring provides a safe, supportive space to grow and achieve results.
Support for Failing Services
When a service is at risk of failure, facing enforcement action or struggling to meet regulatory standards, immediate and experienced support can make the difference. Lumina works alongside providers to stabilise the service, address safety concerns, strengthen governance and rebuild trust with regulators and commissioning partners. We conduct focused assessments to identify critical risks, provide clear improvement plans, and support leaders to implement change quickly and confidently. Our approach is calm, honest and practical, helping services move from crisis to recovery and laying the foundations for long-term improvement.
